Domes are commonly used in defence applications and often in extreme environments such as Submersible ROV’s. The shape of the window creates a naturally strong shape that gets tougher under pressure. Knight Optical are very experienced within the Thermal Imaging market, including anti-reflective and diamond-like-carbon coatings used on the optical components in these systems. Knight Optical know exactly what you are looking for. Thermal imaging uses infrared materials such as Germanium and Silicon, however in there raw form the transmission is not the best it could be. For example, Germanium typically transmits at <45% but with an AR coating applied, it can improve transmission to >60%.
