Aprikosenkernöl wird aus den Früchten des Aprikosenbaums gewonnen. Der Ursprung des Aprikosenbaums, auch als Marillenbaum bekannt, liegt in China. Von dort aus wurde er durch die Römer im Mittelmeerraum verbreitet. Ab dem 18. Jahrhundert wurde der Baum auch in den USA angebaut. Die Ernte findet in Europa im Juli statt. Der Ölgehalt in den Samen der Kerne ist ca 40 - 50%. Um das Aprikosenkernöl zu gewinnen, werden die Aprikosen geerntet und das Fruchtfleisch entfernt. Die so gewonnenen Kerne werden gesäubert, gespalten und die Samen herausgetrennt. Danach erfolgt eine Pressung der Samen. Das Anbaugebiet in Marokko wurde 1990 von der UNESCO in die Liste der zu schützenden Biosphären aufgenommen.
